About Compass Heating, Cooling & Geothermal
Why I Started Compass
After nearly two decades in the HVAC trade, I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted an HVAC company to be.
I wanted to build a company where doing the job right mattered. Where customers were given enough information to make an educated decision instead of being pushed toward whatever equipment someone wanted to sell that day. And where the relationship with the customer didn't end as soon as the installation was finished.
That's why I started Compass Heating & Cooling.
I've spent more than 17 years working in HVAC on Maryland's Eastern Shore. During that time, I've worked on just about everything this trade can throw at you—from straightforward service calls and system replacements to geothermal, complicated airflow problems, controls, ductwork, and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems.
One thing I've learned is that there usually isn't just one answer.
Guiding You to Better Solutions
That's where the name Compass comes from.
Our job isn't simply to show up and sell you a new heating and cooling system. Our job is to help you understand your options and guide you to the solution that makes the most sense for your home, your priorities, and your budget.
Sometimes that's repairing the system you already own.
Sometimes it's replacing it with something simple and dependable.
Other times, investing in variable-speed equipment, a high-efficiency heat pump, geothermal, better ductwork, improved humidity control, or a complete comfort solution makes sense.
We aren't going to pretend the most expensive option is automatically the right one.
What we will do is explain the differences, tell you what we would do and why, and give you the information you need to make a decision you're comfortable with.
Local to Chestertown. Proud to Serve the Upper Eastern Shore.
Compass is locally owned and based right here in Chestertown, and we're proud to serve our neighbors throughout the Upper Eastern Shore.
This isn't just a market we service—it's our home.
We work in the same communities where we live, shop, eat, raise our families, and spend our time. There's a different level of accountability that comes with working in your own community, and we wouldn't want it any other way.
Our reputation is built one customer and one job at a time. Whether we're working a few streets away in Chestertown or traveling across the Upper Eastern Shore, we want our customers to know they're working with a local company that plans on being here for the long haul.
We Look at the Whole House
One of the biggest things I wanted Compass to do differently was look beyond the equipment itself.
A new air conditioner or heat pump can't fix poorly designed ductwork. Bigger equipment isn't always better equipment. And the highest efficiency rating in the brochure doesn't mean much if the system isn't properly designed and installed.
Comfort is about the entire house.
Airflow, ductwork, insulation, humidity, equipment sizing, controls, installation quality, and the building itself all work together. We take the time to look at those things because solving the actual problem is more important than simply replacing a box.
Old-School Workmanship. Modern HVAC.
The HVAC industry is changing quickly.
Inverter-driven heat pumps, variable-speed equipment, geothermal systems, communicating controls, zoning, and modern cold-climate heat pumps have completely changed what we're able to do for homeowners.
We believe in staying on top of that technology without forgetting the fundamentals.
Good airflow still matters. Proper sizing still matters. Clean workmanship still matters. Showing up when you say you're going to show up still matters. And standing behind your work will always matter.
We want to combine the best technology available today with the kind of workmanship and accountability that should never go out of style.
We're Building Something for the Long Term
Compass is a local company, and I'm incredibly proud of what we're building.
We're growing, we're investing in our people, and we're constantly working to get better—but I never want Compass to become the kind of company where customers feel like a number.
I want our customers to know who they're doing business with. I want them to feel comfortable calling us when they have a question. And when we install a system in someone's home, I want them to know we'll still be here to take care of it afterward.
That's the company I wanted to build when I started Compass, and that's the standard we're going to continue holding ourselves to.
